ESE TRANSITION SCHOOL-Structured Work Study Program Student/Parent Contract

Transition School is an unpaid work study program, designed to support students with disabilities who have deferred receipt of diploma, in preparation for independent employment, by providing a rigorous curriculum and immersive model, by partnering with local businesses, focusing in the areas of hospitality, retail, and health care.

In order to maintain the integrity of the program and business partnerships, students and parents who choose the ESE Transition School Work Study Program will be required to adhere to the following:

● Students must demonstrate appropriate behavior and follow the OCPS Student Code of Conduct with exemplary behavior. Maladaptive behaviors and/or receiving a level 3 or 4 referral will result in probation and/or dismissal. Two level 3 referrals may result in dismissal. One level 4 referral may result in dismissal.

● Students must meet OCPS attendance requirements. Excessive unexcused absences may result in the student being placed on probation and/or dismissal from the program.

● Students must follow business policies and procedures (wearing appropriate uniform, maintaining appropriate hygiene, bringing lunch, etc.). Failure to follow guidelines may result in change of business site placement (can be at the business sites’ request) and/or dismissal

● Students must follow transportation guidelines/ policies (wear seatbelt, sit upright, absentee procedures, etc.). Failure to follow policies may result in dismissal from OCPS Transportation provided through EverDriven.

● Students and families commit to the program goal of a path to employment. This may include following through on community agency requirements for Vocational Rehabilitation, Agency for Persons with Disabilities, Project Search, etc.

● Students will utilize technology (phone and school issued computer) appropriately at all times.

For the violations listed above, the probationary period will last through the end of the semester or school year, whichever comes first. When a student is placed on probation, an IEP team meeting will be scheduled to discuss the probationary form and appropriate interventions. If there is insufficient improvement at the conclusion of the probation period, the student may be dismissed from the ESE Transition School and will be given the option to return to his/her zoned school. Under extenuating circumstances immediate dismissal is at the discretion of administration.
